16 3 films set to shoot "República Madalena" documentary in São Paulo, BR (ENG)

One of twelve selected applicants from over 500 entries, 16 3 Films will receive funding from SPCine (Empresa de Cinema e Audiovisual de São Paulo) for the production of “República Madalena”, a short documentary that investigates the role played by Vila Madalena, a popular neighborhood in the city of São Paulo, as a hub of resistance against the military dictatorship that governed Brazil from 1964 to 1985. Through a series of testimonials, reenactments and debates, this film wants to explore Brazil's political path from our years under a military regime to the current rise of conservatism and the election the country's first right wing president.

Directed by Fernando Belo with dramaturgy by Sérgio Roveri, República Madalena is set to start production in the summer of 2019.
